Leadership • Service • Military Humor
I’m Captain Jamye Hunter, a Human Resources Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve with more than 11 years of service. I enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard in 2014 as a Military Police Officer, later served as an SMP Cadet through ROTC at Northern Illinois University, and commissioned in 2020 into the Army Reserve as a Human Resources Officer.
Over the years, I’ve balanced drills, college and a deployment. During this time I also earned my degrees in Human Development and Family Sciences and Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am currently working towards my full licensure.
My work has spanned personnel management, soldier readiness, budgeting and Travel Operations. My experiences have taught me that leadership is about people first—about taking care of those who serve beside you. I have also worked as Unit Prevention Leader and on the Military Funeral Honors Team. I also hold a Tier 2 ACE Certficate for suicide prevention.
Through That Reserve CPT, I share insights, experiences, and honest conversations about the realities of Reserve life — from career development and transitions to mental-health advocacy and mentorship. Don’t forget the dark humor we all love so much, while emphasizing on the importance of military mental health.
🌟 Eleven years in, and still learning that service looks like growth, discipline, and learning to play the game. My goal is to inspire others, while proving the stigma about military mental health needs to change.
